Volunteer Program at Southern Food and Beverage Museum
We need a few good volunteers…
Volunteers are the backbone of a successful museum and as a part of the non-profit world we rely on the volunteer’s skills, knowledge and interests to help our museum grow. Whatever your interests or skill level may be, we will work to find a meaningful job that fits you.
Volunteer Positions:
- Collections- organize and document our large museum collection of cookbooks and food and drink artifacts.
- Museum Store- work at our store’s register and help our guests find what they need.
- Exhibits- help our museum staff in installing exhibits.
- Docents- docents are greatly appreciated during special events at the museum
- Special Events- help the staff set up, coordinate and execute successful events at the museum. We also have monthly children’s programming that will need volunteers.
Qualifications:
Anyone willing to come help our museum is welcomed. We do ask that our volunteers become members of the museum as a part of their volunteer service. Students are exempt from the required memberships.
Training:
We will have a quick training on volunteer work. The training will include brief explanations on the museum and the instruction on the tasks that individuals will be working on.
Benefits:
As a member of the museum you will receive a 10% discount at the museum store plus more membership benefits. In addition to membership benefits, we will have an appreciation party for all volunteers at the end of the year.
Have a SoFAB Volunteer Experience!
If you’re just travelling to New Orleans, you can still volunteer! Groups of one to twenty-five  are welcomed to stop by the Southern Food and Beverage Museum to participate in preserving a slice of the culture of the South and the city of New Orleans.
We offer an indoor facility that allows you to escape the elements, whatever they may be, and enjoy a day of meaningful work. You could be:
- Painting or helping with simple construction
- Helping with organizing and documenting our collections
- Assisting with the instillation of exhibits
- Any number of other fun tasks that come up
We have hosted groups from colleges, both local and from out of state, church groups, Americorps volunteers, conventioneers, and various other organizations. For more information, please email kelsey@southernfood.org or call 504-569-0405 to schedule your VolunTourism experience.
