Acadiana Chef Jeff Tunks is issuing his invitation that you join him at Acadiana in Washington, DC on June 10, 2007. If you live in the area or will be there on June 10, please save the date.
“Invitation to the Southern Table” June 10th Benefit for the Southern Food and Beverage Museum at Washington, DC’s Acadiana Come join Chef Jeff Tunks and his partners Gus DiMillo and David Wizenberg of Acadiana [and Ceiba, DC Coast, and TenPenh, all in Washington, DC] and esteemed colleagues Louis Osteen [Louis at Pawley’s, Pawley’s Island, South Carolina], Linton Hopkins [Restaurant Eugene, Atlanta, Georgia], Jeff Buben [Vidalia, Washington, DC], and Ann Cashion [Cashion’s Eat Place and Johnny’s Half Shell, Washington, DC] at Acadiana on Sunday, June 10, from 6:00-9:00 pm, as they dish out a feast to benefit The New Orleans Southern Food and Beverage Museum.
Chef Tunks, a native of the great southern state of Texas, is a member of the Board of the Southern Food and Beverage Museum, as are his friends and colleagues Osteen and Hopkins. The Museum, established in 2004, is a nonprofit living history organization dedicated to the discovery, understanding and celebration of the food, drink and the related culture of the South. While its new permanent home will be in New Orleans, it represents the cuisine and culture of sixteen states, hosting special exhibits, demonstrations, lectures and tastings throughout the country that showcase the food and drink of the South. Tunks is delighted to be hosting this particular event, the second in the ongoing “Invitation to the Southern Table” series. “Especially after Katrina,” he notes, “it is great for New Orleans to be home to the Museum; and we’ve all been reminded how very important it is to keep alive and celebrate the culture of Southern cuisine.” In fact, when Acadiana was launched in September 2005 (just 12 days after Hurricane Katrina,) its doors opened to the public with a fundraiser, “Po’Boy Power,” which provided substantial benefit to New Orleans on its long road to recovery. Now, to assist in securing the rich heritage of Southern cuisine, Tunks is closing his popular downtown restaurant for the evening to host a festive cocktail reception with a focus on southern food: each of our renowned participating chefs will be manning a station or two featuring his or her own interpretations of a Southern favorite, from Low Country Shrimp & Grits to Louisiana Crawfish Etouffée to good old fashioned Deviled Eggs. Executive Pastry Chef David Guas [Acadiana, Ceiba, and DC Coast,] a Louisiana native, will provide the southern finishes on this second stop of this celebrated tour around the country, “Invitation to the Southern Table.” The price for the event is $100 per person, including open bar with Southern signature drinks. All proceeds will go directly to the Museum, whose New Orleans home is scheduled to open this fall. Come early, eat hearty, drink deeply, chat with the chefs about your favorite Southern dishes -- and support the Southern Food and Beverage Museum.
